-- WFU Student Entrepreneurs: University Storage Solutions
What does it take to start a small business? Sometimes it only takes one idea and four months.
Christian Spake and Sitong Wu, both sophmores from Wake Forest University, came up with the idea of University Storage Solutions in Januaray, 2015. The fact that international students are having a hard time storing their belongings during summer is the reason why they set up this company. After coming up with the idea, they recruited Jeson Wang, a junior international students from Wake, to join them with the business.
"We sell you a service that we come to your dorm around finals, help you pack your stuff and put them in a safe location off campus, and we bring them back to you in August." Spake said.
The process of setting up this company contains five steps: 1. File with the state; 2. set up the website; 3. Having an agreement with WFU; 4. Talk to Residence Life and Housing; 5. Marketing. Spake thinks that getting legal paper works was the hardest part, yet Wu insists that marketing was the most painful one.
"Marketing Sucks!" Wu said.
After four-months' efforts, University Storage Solutions is now in perfect shape and is already taking orders from a varieIty of students on campus.
"We focus on international students, but actually 50% of our costumers are Americans and 50% are interntional studens" Wu said.
Although the company has just started, these two student entrepreneurs are already thinking about how to expand the company in the future.
"My goal for the company is to let all the universities in North Carlina to use our business!" Wu said.
"Well, he is always in a rush." Spake shaked his head and laughed.
